MEAL SENSE
MEAL SENSE
Description
The MealSense application is a comprehensive dining app aimed at reducing food waste and promoting responsible consumption. It features weekly meal pre-selection for better demand prediction, AI-powered waste segregation with gamification for behavioral change, and leftover food redistribution to minimize waste. This integrated solution fosters sustainability, optimizes food supply, and engages users through innovative technology.
Role
UX Research, Data Analysis, UI & Prototyping, Iterating
Duration
2 months
Project Type
Academic Project under the subject Interaction Design Practices, as part of the Midterm Project. The purpose of the project was to create a solution that followed any one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Meal Sense is built around the goal of "Responsible Consumption and Production".
Problem Statment
IUI's dining halls generate high levels of waste due to overconsumption and inefficient waste management. While programs like "Waste Not 2.0" and awareness campaigns have been introduced, student participation remains low, posing a significant challenge to sustainability.
This project aims to develop solutions for more responsible consumption and waste reduction, enhancing sustainability efforts within the campus community.
Approach
The project began with interviewing and observing about 8 individuals, including the IUI dining hall staff and students.
The key findings from the data gathered were used for a problem synthesis in which the team created an affinity map, thematic network
This was followed by a thorough research of the company's current impact and client background to plan features that suited everyone.
Next step was to brainstorm the possible features on the website and communicate the same to the company heads to get approval.
Last stage was designing the final solution, presenting it to the team and iterating till clients were satisfied.
